Looking to buy a nail gun

Hi newbie here, I am looking to purchase a lightweight nail gun, small projects such as closet shelving etc, I was it to be user friendly, cordless. Also how does it work when the nails run out, is it a refill, do you purchase this separately or do most of them come with nails initially. TIA

Re: nail gun

Hello @Steffi

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you with us, and thank you for sharing your question about nail guns.

Using a nail gun to assemble furniture and the like is a big step in D.I.Y. There are a few types of dedicated nailers from roofing, framing, finishing, brad, and pin nailers. The one often used for furniture projects is the brad nailer. I suggest having a look at the Ryobi One+ 18V Cordless Brad Nail Gun. It has excellent features and benefits from regulated air pressure to cordless convenience. It's easy to use and can use different nail lengths.

Compressor driven nail guns may be cheaper but you'll have to take into account the cost of the compressor and the hose. Plus some of the old guns involve comprehensive maintenance which the new cordless ones don't require.

Here is a link to our best advice: Do you recommend a nail gun?

Re: Looking to buy a nail gun

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @froglegs. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about installing plasterboard with a nail gun.

Here's the installation guide for Gyprock plasterboard. The recommended fixings are either 30 x 2.8mm 500g Plasterboard Nails or 6G - 18 x 30mm Needle Point Gold Passivated Plasterboard Screws. Unfortunately, I am unaware of specific plasterboard nail suitable for a nail gun, as they feature a ringed shank for gripping the timber and board and a lattice sunken head for holding filler. However, there is the Paslode 32 x 2.5mm Electro Galvanised Screw Hardened 15 Degree Pneumatic Plastic Collated Coil Nails , which are suited to the somewhat specialised coil guns.

The Brad nail gun mentioned here is unsuitable for fixing plasterboards as they take very thin nails with virtually no existing head.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
