How to open wooden drawer stuck after painting?

Hi Everyone

i have this vintage table I have painted in a chalk paint. Obviously I have waited overnight for the paint to set and then I pushed the drawer in but it seems to have stuck and as there are no knobs on the drawer yet I can’t pull it back out.

Any advice would be very helpful.

You could get a large screw or two and screw them into the holes where the handle will go. Then use pliers to pull it out. JDE

Thank You not a bad idea

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @janelleash. It's sensational to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about opening a drawer.

It's great to see that the helpful @JDE has already provided a solution.

I'd suggest placing two large flathead screwdrivers or flat pieces of timber like a paint stirrer in the locations I've marked below. Pry the drawer out by pushing the levers to the left. Ensure you lever both sides of the drawer front at the same time. You'll likely find that although the paint has had overnight to cure, it is probably a bit sticky still

Please let me know if that doesn't work or if you have any questions.

Good News!!
I got the drawer unstuck using a chisel and gently prying it out.

That's great to hear @janelleash. Well done.

Hi Mitchell,

That’s what I did with my chisel and it worked
