How to replace blinds with curtains?

Hi there.

I stay in a rental home and we currently have a set of blinds installed which broke a few days after moving in. The blinds can no longer roll up. We want to remove them and install curtains (the cheapest and easiest way possible) before our newborn arrives in a week's time. Would you have any tips on how to remove this, please?

Appreciated in advance!

Re: How to replace blinds with curtains?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @FP20. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about removing blinds.

Just to clarify, is that a curtain that is attached to the blind front with velcro, and does it not provide the window covering you are looking for?

There appears to be some type of bracket, with potentially a locking arm in the image below. I'd suggest that's how the blind is retained on the wall. Try moving the arm to see if it releases the blind from the bracket. I have similar blinds and brackets, but mine just pull out of the bracket when tilted downwards.

It might be a bit late to go this route if the bub is coming next week, but since the blind was working when you moved in, you can let your property manager know, and they should be able to have it repaired for you.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi there,

Thank you so much for this. I have just tried it and can see that it is easy to remove. Any chance we could just get a replacement curtain/blinds for it there at bunnings?

Our property manager has also advised that it is our issue as it was working when we moved in.

Re: How to replace blinds with curtains?

Hello @FP20

In order to get a compatible blind, I suggest bringing the old one to the store so that you can compare it with the new ones to make sure that they are the same size and that they will fit in the old brackets. The other option of course is to remove the old brackets and install the new ones that come with the new set.

However, if you prefer curtains, I suggest getting a full kit that comes with brackets. This will make it easier to put together. Please remember to measure the position of the old blind clips as these will be your mounting points for the new curtain rail. It's important to get a set that is not shorter than the space between these old clips.

Here are some handy step-by-step guides:

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.
