Does Bunnings cut wood to size?

Many Bunnings stores offer a timber cutting service to help you get your wood home and get started on your project.

Here are some frequently asked questions about our timber cutting service to help Bunnings Workshop members.

What type of cuts can be done at a Bunnings store?

Bunnings stores typically have two types of saws for timber cutting.

  • Panel saw – used to cut large sheet materials into smaller rectangular sections and pieces. The machine is capable of both horizontal and vertical cuts on most of our board products. Some examples of products that can be cut using a panel saw include MelaminePlywood and MDF.

Does this service have a cost?

Bunnings stores may charge a small fee for timber cutting. The price is:

  • Timber docking - First two cuts are free, and 50 cents per additional cut

  • Panels and sheeting - First cut is free and $1 per additional cut.

Is this service available at my local Bunnings?

You can check whether the timber cutting service is available at a nearby store by visiting the Bunnings website. Here’s how:

  • Mobile device - Select your nearest store and then click on your store's name on the top left of the screen. This will take you to your store's information page, including details about what services they offer

  • Desktop computer - Type the nearest store's name in the change store drop-down and then click on store details. This will take you to your store's information page, including details on what services they offer.

Can I bring my own piece of timber to be cut?

Due to the many variables associated with timber products, we can only cut products purchased from our stores.

When is the best time to visit a store for timber cutting?

Visiting at a quieter time will ensure faster service. It's best to avoid weekends and public holidays as many other D.I.Y. enthusiasts will also be looking to build their own projects.

What if I want to do the cutting at home?

Knowing what saw to use and how to use it is the key to success. Here are some useful guides to get you started:

What if I can't get my timber home?

We offer a number of options to get your products home safely. You can use our free courtesy trailer for up to two hours. If you need more time you can also hire a trailer, a ute or a van to suit your needs. We also offer a comprehensive delivery service to assist you in getting your purchases home. Most stores offer same day or next day service. Please contact your nearest store for details.

Please feel free to let me know if you have further questions about our helpful timber cutting service.

Re: cutting easycraft panels

I just order 5 panel from Bunnings, unfortunately they don't cut the panel for me. I can cut at home but it is quite big for my van.

Re: Does Bunnings cut wood to size?

I have just been refused this service at Bunnings Malaga WA, I was told by a team member, then store manager, they will cut timber to fit it in a vehicle but not to size for a project. What use is this? Not happy😡

Re: Does Bunnings cut wood to size?

Hello @highpsi

Welcome to the Bunnings workshop community. It's wonderful to have you join us.

I'm sorry to hear that you could not get your timber cut. The reason for this is that the panel saw at the store is not made for precision cutting.

I suggest having the panels cut close to the size that you need. You can then do your precision cuts at home. For example, if you need a panel that is 500mm add an extra 50mm to either side so that even if the cut is uneven, you have a buffer that allows you to cut it to the size that you need.

Can you please tell us the sizes you need the panels to be cut at? The added information might help us with a way to cut the panel.

If you still need assistance at the Malaga store, please let me know I'll be more than happy to give them a call.

Re: Does Bunnings cut wood to size?

I was purchasing a sheet of 3mm mdf and wanted it cut ( total 4 times) to give me 2 pieces (plus waste)

required sizes

725x585

735x535

the whole reason I want it cut, is I don’t have a shad/workshop and limited tools, I’m also disabled (post stroke) and cutting a straight line that long with hand tools is not going to happen

Thanks.   Done.  Change the dark blue color carpet to Qs laminated floor, have repaint all windows and door trim. And install the vj panels finally.

I found the panel is really hard to connect the joint tightly. You have to push hard by using hammer and blocks to give the panel a push. And because it is MDF panel so if you push hard , it may do some damage to the panel edge. And especially the corner panel, there is no way and no room to push.. so I have to leave some minor gap(1-2mm) between each panels, and fill with no gap filler before painting.

Anyways, the finished is lovely.

And thanks for all helpful info from Bunnings workshop.

How accurate is Bunnings panel cutting?

Long time lurker, first time poster here.

I have some projects in mind that will involve some large panels (2400x1200) that I will be purchasing from Bunnings Kingston (TAS). I have a cut list, but my experience with other lumber yards is that the cuts requested can be off by quite a bit.

Like many DIYers, I do not possess the means to transport a large panel so my options are limited to delivery, trailer hire, in-store cutting services, or being that guy in the carpark with a portable circular saw to get it in the car.

So the question is how accurate is panel cutting? Will I need to add a substantial tolerance to my measurements, or is blade thickness sufficient? I just need the pieces small enough to get in a station wagon where I can get them home to the table saw for final sizing. The other consideration is the straightness of the factory edge...

If anyone has any experience or advice to share it would be greatly appreciated.
