How to repair cracks in concrete and repaint?

Hi! I'm planning to give my backyard concrete a fresh coat of paint. Can you please suggest whether I need to repair all the hairline cracks (and a few longer and bigger cracks like the one towards the bottom of the photo)? And what would be the products and procedure for the process?

For repainting, would etching be required or a good clean will do? It would be great to get some advise on the process too. Thank you!

Re: How to repair cracks in concrete and repaint?

Hello @Ama

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about painting the concrete base in your backyard.

Generally, I would recommend using a Concrete and Paving paint. However, the widespread occurrence of micro fractures in your concrete has me worried. Please allow me to make some inquiries with our suppliers regarding this issue. As soon as I have more information, I'll get back to you.

Please note that we'll be going through the Easter long weekend, and I'll only be able to contact the supplier on Tuesday of next week.

Thank you for your patience.

Eric

Re: How to repair cracks in concrete and repaint?

Hello @Ama

Thank you for your patience. I've just been in contact with our supplier, and they have informed me that the microfractures on your driveway must be addressed first before you apply any concrete paint on your driveway. Painting it now will not fix or cover the microfractures which in time could lead to surface deterioration.

I suggest engaging the services of a concrete resurfacing specialist to address the issue before painting over the surface.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
