How to recoat wooden deck timber?

Last year I applied Feast Watson 'Wet Look' oil to a merbau deck. It still looks pretty good but I am thinking about recoating. However, I am reluctant to completely strip it and start again. F & W don't make clear whether you can just wash the deck clean and then recoat. Any ideas?

Hello @MJG

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's fantastic to have you join us, and thank you for sharing your question about recoating your deck.

Unfortunately, recoating your deck without removing the old coat will likely give you a patched finish. Parts will be darker others lighter due to the uneven absorption of the new coat. This is why when you recoat your deck all the old coating must be removed before you put the new one on.

Here are some handy step-by-step guides:

I also suggest having a look at this discussion - Deck strip, sand and oil by @DIY_Dan.

If you need further assistance, please let us know,
