How to choose a saw?

Hi all,

I have just moved into a house with a big but dilapidated garden. I want to buy a saw which I can use for cutting planks of timber to use for garden edging and simple things like that. My budget is small and I really just want something which will cut wood (pretty small planks). Suggestions please?

Hi @pony

An ozito compound  saw will do alot of  cross cuts like a pro on a budget

Ozito 1600W 210mm 8¼" Corded Compound Mitre Saw I/N: 0025645 $109

A  circular saw will cut heavier 50mm  garden planks.

Ozito 185mm 1300W Corded Circular Saw

$69.90

Re: How to choose a saw?

Hello @pony

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's marvellous to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about saws.

If you are not doing a lot of D.I.Y. a standard hand saw such as the IRWIN 500mm 8PT Jack Hand Saw is more than enough to handle basic jobs such as cutting sleepers including small to midsize timber.

Next up is an Ozito 920W Reciprocating Saw RSW-5200. Think of it as a powered hand saw. It will easily cut sleepers but keeping the cut straight is one of its issues. If you're not too fussed with timber edging, then this is the saw for you.

You now have the circular saw. It comes in different models, but its main attraction is that it has a circular blade and easily cuts right through timber.  Such as the  Ozito PXC 18V 165mm Circular Saw.

I also suggest having a look at this guide - How to choose the right power saw for the job by @Adam_W.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
