Re: What do I use to replace slats on an antique bed?

Hello @shansalem

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about what slats to use on the antique bed.

The original bed had a timber frame on top of the the steel arms. You'll notice that the arms have small, raised slats with holes in them. The timber frame sat on the long steel arms and was secured with a screw through the slats. This prevented it from moving or sliding.

For the bed frame, I suggest using 90x45 timber in combination with Zenith 10G x 100mm Gold Passivated Countersunk Rib Head Chipboard Screws. For the slats, I propose using Plywood 19mm thick and cutting them into 100mm strips.

I've placed a sample image below to give you an idea of how you can put it together. Please note that the measurements are for reference only, make sure to adjust them to your needs.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Eric
