Upcycled coffee table and TV unit

Due to a home renovation to expand the kitchen area to include a dining space, it meant the loungeroom would end up smaller and its furniture too large. After giving away the rectangle coffee table and TV unit, I sourced used smaller ones that needed to be resurfaced to compliment other furnishings in the home. In addition, a small wooden stand to support the centre speaker and house the DVD player as they were not compatible sizes.

Steps

Step 1

Day 1 - Disassemble, sand and apply first undercoat.

Use 120 grit sandpaper to remove older surfaces.

Wipe down with a damp cloth.

Apply first coat of undercoat - sealer.

Step 2

Day 2 - Apply second undercoat and two topcoats.

Use 240 grit sandpaper lightly before second undercoat-sealer.

Apply second coat of undercoat - sealer.

Use 240 grit sandpaper lightly before first stain - varnish.

Apply first coat of stain - varnish to look like wood grain.

Use 240 grit sandpaper lightly before second stain - varnish.

Apply second coat of stain - varnish to look like wood grain.

Step 3

Day 3 - Reassemble.

Reassemble legs and tops to frames and refit drawer handles.

Re: Upcycled coffee table and TV unit

Hello @RJsPlace

Thank you for sharing your coffee table and TV unit upcycle project. The finish on the timber top looks awesome. How many days did it take to paint both units? Any chance of a photo once everything is back in its place and set up? I'm sure our members will be keen to see what it looks like.

Hi Eric, and thanks for your feedback.

I have updated the project to show more steps and photos, oh, and to include the belt sander that I forgot to include.

Cheers.

Good afternoon @RJsPlace

Thats a nice finish and a whole lot of effort on those benchtops! I really like the idea of reusing what we have instead of buying new

Impressed with the job for sure.

Re: Upcycled coffee table and TV unit

Thanks Dave.

It wasn't until this project that I even considered using undercoat and stain/varnish combination until of the thought that they are both water-based.

Cheers.
