How do I prevent spiders from coming out of my HVAC air vent?

IMG_2244.jpgIMG_2243.jpg

Hi everyone,

So I have had a massive problem with spiders coming out in summer crawling out of my air vent in my room, and it seems that it happens around the house often as well. As a temporary/quick way to prevent these spiders from coming out, are there any suitable screens or covers I can install either on the air vent or through the circular piece in the centre?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @annieln4. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about preventing spiders in the home.

How sure are you that the spiders are coming out from the vent instead of using the vent as a convenient location to call home? The reason I'm asking is, to the best of my knowledge, your HVAC system should be closed to access by insects. You have your internal ducting that will lead back to your air conditioner/heat pump and connect to a radiator. I don't believe insects should be able to access this system, but I must admit I don't have extensive knowledge of the varieties of setups. Regardless, I would have thought the best way to deal with this issue would be to have the ducts cleaned to remove debris and any spiders within them and put measures in place to stop them from entering the system. I'd imagine an HVAC cleaning specialist would be able to advise on this.

I'm not aware of any specific cover designed for this purpose. If the vent cover can be removed from the ceiling, there is a good chance that a standard flyscreen could be attached to the rear of it before re-installation.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
