How to add a mains pressure garden tap?

Hi all,

I would like to add a mains pressure garden tap to a back area of my garden to make watering easier as the only tap currently available is at the front of the house.

I have a tap manifold (https://www.bunnings.com.au/holman-4-way-metal-tap-outlet_p3110520 )  which I was thinking of attaching blue poly pipe https://www.bunnings.com.au/vinidex-25mm-x-25m-metric-blue-poly-pipe_p0179109 .

Are the following items correct to make this happen?

Elbows: https://www.bunnings.com.au/philmac-metric-25mm-poly-x-poly-pipe-elbow_p4813800 Do you use thread tap when connecting these?

Tap: https://www.bunnings.com.au/syneco-1-2-brass-garden-hose-tap_p5040008 Is this the correct size tap and do I need an additional vacuum breaker as this tap does not have one built in like this one https://www.bunnings.com.au/brasshards-15mm-t-head-hose-tap-with-vacuum-breaker_p5050166 - not currently available.

Is this used to attach to existing tap:  https://www.bunnings.com.au/philmac-25mm-x-1-metric-poly-x-mi-bsp-pipe-end-connector_p4813787

Connection to pipe riser:  https://www.bunnings.com.au/philmac-1-x-1-bsp-thread-mi-x-fi-pipe-elbow_p4813775

Pipe riser: https://www.bunnings.com.au/philmac-600mm-x-1-mi-x-mi-bsp-thread-pipe-riser_p0134983

I'm not quite sure if I have the measurements correct in the links above but I can double check before I purchase.

Is there anything else I need to consider or purchase?

Appreciate any assistance.

Thanks.

Re: Adding a mains pressure garden tap

Hi @Alan__,

So our members can better understand your project, can you please confirm that you want to use an existing tap and run water from its spout via a poly pipe to the rear yard, establishing a tap there?

I suggest you mount this new tap and the easiest way to do that is with a Kinetic Heritage Green Garden Tap Post. You can screw your tap onto the post, and it will give you a 15 or 20mm outlet at the rear to connect your poly pipe. Your tap must have a vacuum breaker on it.

You can then connect a Philmac 25mm x 3/4" Metric Poly x FI BSP Pipe End Connector to the inlet on the tap post, sealing the thread with thread tape. Join your Vinidex 25mm x 25m Metric Blue Poly Pipe to the Pipe end connector. You'll then run this pipe to your tap in the front yard. The pipe can be fixed to the tap spout with a Philmac 25mm x 3/4" Metric Poly x FI BSP Pipe End Connector if you have a 3/4" garden tap, and this connection also requires thread tape. Philmac Metric 25mm Poly x Poly Pipe Elbows are used for any corners.

It's a little hard to follow exactly what you want to do in regard to connections and the use of the manifold and riser etc. If you can sketch out your plan and label any joins and corners, it will help out members better understand what you would like to achieve and allow them to make helpful suggestions.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell

Re: Adding a mains pressure garden tap

Hi Mitchell,

Thanks for the prompt reply and I can clarify that I want to use an existing tap and run water to the rear yard to a tap there, exactly as you described.

Your reply is also exactly the info I need, I feel I was overthinking it earlier and got myself confused, apologies.

Could I ask for a link to a vacuum breaker as I cannot seem to locate one on the Bunnings website and would this need to be placed on the existing tap or the new tap?

Thanks again for your help.

Re: Adding a mains pressure garden tap

Hi @Alan__,

This inline check valve performs the same function and needs to be installed directly after the existing tap. Connect a section of your pipe to the tap and use two of these Philmac 25mm x 3/4" Metric Poly x MI BSP Pipe End Connectors to fix the valve in line in your pipe.

Apologies for the incorrect link @Alan__.

I believe Mitch was trying to link to this product: Holman 20mm In-Line Check Valve

All the best,
