HELP with LED Batten w/ Motion Sensor for layout shown

I am seeking help in getting the correct types + quantities + positions to install some new lighting in my garage.

I previously had an ALDI brand 2 Bar LED Garage light with motion detection and adjustment up to 15mins. The Motion detection worked well, it sensed our entry to the garage when entering from the door near the vertical freezer shown, and not having it now has made us really aware of how important/handy it is - we could stand at the freezer for way too long to be able to remove/find/repack as needed :).

What does Bunnings have that could cover this area with LED battens and multiple motion sensors?

Criteria

  • "time on" adjustment >= 15mins
  • happy to go with integrated/separate/multiple Motion sensors if needed
  • Detect entry to the garage from the doorway adjacent to the vertical freezer as well as all of the garage floor
  • Be bright enough to cover the garage with adequate lighting
  • Not too concerned with budget, just want it done properly

Hi @Ask_Itee,

It sounds like your needs could be met with a Brilliant Smart Intelliscanner Outdoor PIR Sensor and two 1200mm LED batten lights. Two lights should be adequate for navigation, but you can add up to 300W if needed. The sensor has a 110-degree detection range, so if it were placed in the bottom left corner of your plan, it would detect entry from all doors. 15mins is quite a long time for a sensor to stay activated, and the Brilliant sensor has a relatively long max duration time of 10mins. However, during that 10mins, unless you are standing perfectly still, the timer will reset itself multiple times when it detects you moving. Also, since this is a smart sensor, you can override the timer from the app and turn the lights on whilst you are out at the freezer.

Let me mention our resident smart home specialist, @CSParnell, to see if he has any neat solutions that could suit this application.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

@MitchellMc @Ask_Itee

You could look at going to smart home automation which give you a lot more control.

With the Arlec Grid Connect Battens you can control them with the Delta Smart PIR and if it is wired in parallel with the switch it means you can use the switch as normal if you want without affecting the PIR as it will have constant power.

You can then go a step further and install the Orion garage door contollers so you can open with mobile devices or Google voice or Alexa in the car and have an automation to have to turn on the lights even before the sensor picks up moment and then have an automation  of when no movement for X time turn off lights.

Requirements are modem with 2.4ghz bandwidth, the Grid Connect App is free.

The PIR motion sensor is controlled by your phone in the app and you can run automations so as said before you can have an automation that if no motion for X time then turn off so it doesn't have to be 15min.

Re: HELP with LED Batten w/ Motion Sensor for layout shown

I thought I'd report back on how it all went.

We went with the Deta Grid Connect Smart PIR sensors and Deta 120cm Tri-Colour LED Battens.  The result has been better than I had hoped for, lighting spreads well into the darker areas of the garage, and is quite bright for the rest.  Being able to adjust down the brightness if I ever needed will be handy.  We went with 2 PIR sensors and I've had a play with the options - a great piece of kit.

Thanks to you all for your input and wisdom.
