Can you use a Specrite panel for bathroom vanity?

Can you use a Specrite panel for bathroom vanity?

I'm looking at using a Specrite 1200 x 405 x 18mm Golden Teak Acacia Multi Use Panel as a vanity top in my bathroom. It says on the label to use caution in wet areas and follow the instructions provided, but I can't see the instructions until I buy it. I assume it's just regular oiling and so on.

Has anyone used this in the bathroom?

Re: Use of Specrite panel for bathroom vanity

Hi @RenoRaine,

You'd typically want to use a hard waterproof coating on timber surrounding a sink like Cabot's 500ml Satin Water Based Cabothane Clear Polyurethane Timber Varnish. Oil will help prevent damage but you'll still experience water staining and possibly decay.

The instructions state that a hard wax should be used for protection, but the panel is not designed for wet areas.

I've used these panels in a laundry and chose to go with polyurethane instead of wax. They've held up nicely under damp conditions.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
