Refreshing a laundry can be an easy and relatively inexpensive project that's perfect for D.I.Y. beginners.

From adding a benchtop to painting cabinets, Bunnings Workshop community members have shared many ways to make their laundry more functional and stylish.

Check out the ideas below for transforming your laundry and let us know if you need a hand.

1. Install a benchtop

A benchtop can help provide much more room to be productive. Jesse (@Jesse1) doubled the bench space in her laundry by installing a large bamboo benchtop above the washing machine.

2. Add new cabinets

New cabinetry can add vital storage space and help remove clutter. Adding Kaboodle cabinetry in her laundry provided Lauren (@theDIYedit) with lots of much-needed storage space.

3. Build hanging rails

Hanging rails are a great way to utilise ceiling space to help dry your clothes. Community member @Nkbarfield used hanging rails and a floating shelf to build a space-saving drying and laundry storage solution for under $250.

You can get step-by-step instructions on how to build your own hanging rail from the Bunnings website.

4. Make shelves

Adjustable shelves are perfect for organising and maximising storage in laundries. Nicholas (@DoSimpleBetter)'s Pine shelves make the most of a small hidden laundry and are spaced to store specific laundry and bathroom items.

5. Add a splashback

Splashbacks can protect laundry walls from water spills while adding style and personality. Helen (@frugalspacemakr) added a tiled splashback while renovating her laundry, creating “a designer look for less”.

6. Paint

Paint is one of the easiest and most effective ways of refreshing a tired laundry. Community member @Sandi2 dramatically transformed their laundry area by painting their cabinet doors

7. Replace the sink and tap

Replacing essential features like sinks and taps can help make everyday tasks much easier and add a touch of style to your laundry. Wanting to create a more functional space for grooming their dog, community member @mangoaqua opted to install a bigger sink and tap

Spray painting your tapware can also be a great way to give your laundry a new look, just like how Mariana (@lifestylebymari) did in her bathroom
