A fence can make for an attractive feature in your garden or backyard while adding privacy and security to your home.

From painting to adding decorative panels, Bunnings Workshop members have shared many ways to enliven different types of fences.

Get inspired by some examples below.

1. Use living screening

Climbers can be used to create beautiful living screening over plain fences. In this popular project, Roy (@royq) used Star Jasmine and cable to train the plant to cover their fence.

2. Paint

Give your dated fence a new look using paint. Workshop member @KingStreetReno used a spray gun to paint their old fence, saving hours and ensuring clean up was easy.

3. Use screen panels

Showcase your personal style by using decorative panels that can give your fence a unique design. Rufaro (@diy_hausdesigns) refreshed a dated fence by building an eye-catching screening using Matrix screen panels and Merbau decking.

4. Create a vertical garden

Make the most of your fence by using it to grow a vertical garden. Member KingStreetReno also used a vertical garden kit to create a herb garden along their fence.

5. Clad with another material

6. Add planter boxes

Add character to your fence by incorporating planter boxes in the design. John (@John44) used planter boxes and raised garden beds to turn his fence into a stylish outdoor feature.

7. Extend your fence

Create extra privacy in your outdoor space by adding a fence extension. Get inspired by @Shannon, who added panels to extend the height of his fence using a modular design that can be removed for maintenance.
