Cabinets are versatile and can be used in many ways to add storage and help organise your home.

Our clever Bunnings Workshop members have repurposed cabinets in many creative ways. Get inspiration for your own project from the ideas below.

1. Outdoor kitchen

Cabinets are great for adding bench space and storage for barbecue essentials. In this clever and cost-effective project, @Terry utilised garage storage cabinetry to create an outdoor kitchen

3. Mud room

The mud room concept to store frequently-used items like shoes, bags and clothing doesn't require a dedicated room. Donna (@DonnaDrummond1) transformed an old cabinet that had been in a shed for half a century into a practical mini-mud room.

4. Dog crate

You can modify a cabinet to ensure it is well-ventilated, comfortable and secure space for a beloved pet to sleep. Wanting to make a stylish bed for her “new fur baby”, Jessica (@havin_a_go) upcycled an old TV unit to create a dog crate by removing glass and inserting mesh.

5. Desk

Cabinets are a great way to store office essentials and add more workspace. While upcycling a couple of dated filing cabinets, Elle (@ElleM) added new fittings and an Acacia panel on top to create a desk.

I love how many Bunnings Workshop community members are committed to upcycling furniture. It is so much better to find a new use for a cabinet than consign it to landfill.

Many thanks to all members who have shared projects for this piece.
