Damaged timber step repair

My parents have spent nearly 3 years renovating their home both inside and outside. Their main focus was an outdoor entertaining area centred around their pool, which has provided the perfect setting for family gatherings or enjoying special moments with the grandkids. Unfortunately they started to notice the steps that lead to the outdoor Man Cave were showing wear and tear. Due to the proximity to the pool they were concerned about safety should anyone trip while using them.

Instead of removing all the sleepers we decided to attach Merbau decking to match the deck located above. I was able to buy one long length at Bunnings and have it cut to length for easy transport. I only had to cut 1 board vertically and the 4 lengths for the base support. I let the timber weather for a few days before doing a final check at my parents making sure all lengths fit perfectly.

Overall it was affordable, easy to prep and install and provides a long term safe solution that looks great.

Materials - 5 x 1.2m Merbau (90 x 19), Decking screws, Aquadeck Decking Oil

Re: Damaged timber step repair

Oh, I love that, @Tara86! That contrast between the new and old timber is really on point. I can really see this same look being used on elevated seating.

What a fantastic way to solve a safety issue and create a neat feature.

Many thanks for sharing, and well done.

Mitchell
