Re: How to stain wood putty used after flooring shrinkage?

Hello @peter2409

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's wonderful to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about staining wood putty.

Wood fillers generally have a limited ability to absorb stain compared to natural woods, often leading to discrepancies in colour. Consequently, areas filled with wood filler may appear noticeably lighter or darker than the surrounding stained wood.

When the same stain is applied to both the wood and the filler, the final appearance can vary, creating a distinct difference in colour. I propose using Waxstix Timbermate Touch Up Crayon to cover the filler. Please note that this is a temporary measure, and you'll need to touch up the filler every now and then when the wax fades or is scuffed away.

I also suggest bringing an offcut of your flooring to the store and showing the paint specialist. They might be able to find a stain that is close to your floors colour.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
