Re: i want to make a cabinet with doors and drawers

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @harathivittal. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about creating a cabinet.

Building a cabinet with doors and drawers can be a rewarding DIY project. Do you have much experience with timberwork, or have you created something similar in the past?

To start, sketch out your cabinet design with the dimensions. Gather the necessary materials, including plywood or MDF for the cabinet structure and drawers, wood for the frame, cabinet doors, handles, hinges, screws, wood glue, sandpaper, and paint or stain if you want to finish the cabinet. Ensure you have the right tools, such as a circular saw, drill and drill bits, measuring tape, clamps, and an electric sander. Most importantly, ensure appropriate PPE, including safety glasses and a face mask.

Cut the panels to the appropriate dimensions for the cabinet's top, bottom, sides, and back. If you are using wood for the frame, assemble the front-facing frame of the cabinet by attaching the pieces together with wood glue and screws. Then, build the cabinet box by attaching the panels to the frame using wood glue and screws, ensuring the corners are square. Afterwards, attach the cabinet doors with hinges and drill holes for the handles or knobs. Finally, sand the surfaces and edges of the cabinet for a smooth finish, and if desired, paint or stain the cabinet to match your decor.

Those are the basic instructions for creating a cabinet. Please let me know if you have any particular questions.

Re: How to build a cabinet?

Hi @harathivittal

@MitchellMc's instructions are so good that I've bookmarked them for myself!

If you are new to diy-ing and want your cabinet in a hurry sometimes the beginning stages of a diy project can be a bit daunting.  May I suggest another option is look at the range of wall cabinets offered by the Bedford Group (sold at Bunnings):

https://www.bunnings.com.au/search/products?q=Bedford+cabinets&sort=BoostOrder&page=1

https://bedfordgroup.com.au/business-initiatives/bedford-furniture

Bunnings also stock a good range of furniture legs:

https://www.bunnings.com.au/products/building-hardware/general-hardware/furniture-floor-protection/f...

Then all you have to do is fix the legs on!  The Bunnings staff and Workshop Community are all there to help you get the right type of legs and advise you on how to put them on (especially if your cabinet has a laminated finish!).

I don't know how to make or install drawers so bought some storage containers and these stackable document trays:

Everything is all tidy now and with easy access!

Good luck!

Cheers 🤗
