How to fix kitchen tap mixer low hot water pressure?

Hi, the approx 1 year old tap mixer has suddenly developed low hot water pressure.  Cold is fine and hot water in the rest of the house is fine too.  I have checked the tap is on and turned it off and on again.  Is there anything else I can try before having to call a plumber?

Thank you

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Liz22. It's sensational to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about hot water pressure.

When you say you've turned the tap on and off, have you checked under the sink to see if there are a couple of smaller taps just before the pipes go into the wall? Check both of them to ensure they are fully opened in the anti-clockwise direction. Failing that being the issue, I suspect the internal mixer cartridge could have failed and needs replacing. If you're not confident in disassembling the tap, then it would be a job for a plumber.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: Kitchen tap mixer low hot water pressure

Hi Mitchell

Yes, it was the taps attached to the tap pipes that I turned off and then full on again.

Are mixer cartridges available at Bunnings suitable for all brands of taps?  The tap was purchased from Bunnings.

Thank you

Liz

Re: Kitchen tap mixer low hot water pressure

Hello @Liz22

The ceramic cartridges available at the store are are generic in nature and might work on your tap mixer. To make sure the new cartridge fits, I suggest visiting the store and bringing the old cartridge with you. I propose speaking to the plumbing specialist and comparing it to the replacement piece.

Another way to way to make sure that the cartridge fits is to order the same one from the special orders desk. However, before taking any of these steps, I recommend having a look at your warranty for the tap and see how long the cartridge is covered for. If the tap is still under warranty, I suggest holding off on dismantling it and calling the number at the back of your warranty card and proceed from there.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
