Australians are house proud and many have discovered the joy and satisfaction of completing their own D.I.Y. projects around the home and garden.

This D.I.Y. July we are again searching for Australia's best D.I.Y. projects of the year and offering the opportunity to get your work featured in the Bunnings Magazine.

It’s exciting to see many high-quality entries already. Please don’t hesitate to show off your own handiwork as well as adding your comments and likes to the entries already submitted on our project gallery

To enter, hit the Share a project button at the top of any page here on Bunnings Workshop. Include a brief description of your project, tools and materials used, the steps you undertook as well as before and after photos. Make sure you select the D.I.Y. July entry label before hitting the post button and submitting your entry.

If you need a hand with entering, please don't hesitate to ask

There are seven categories in this year's project search:

  • Best bathroom or laundry makeover

  • Best kitchen makeover

  • Best paint project

  • Best small project

  • Best upcycling makeover

  • Best community project

  • Best outdoor project.

Our judging panel includes Workshop's D.I.Y. expert Mitch Mclean, Dulux colour expert Andrea Lucena-Orr, British Paints Colour Manager Shirley Platcher and Bunnings Magazine editor Lisa Green.

Winners of the 2022 search included Claire O’Connell who won best kitchen makeover for her outstanding renovation of a century-old Queenslander

Claire encourages everyone to have a go at their own D.I.Y. projects. “The thing to remember is that it’s okay to make mistakes,” she says. “Almost everything can be fixed or touched up. You’re more capable than you think.”

Winners will have their work featured in the September issue of the Bunnings Magazine.

Apologies to our Kiwi friends that the search is open to Australians only. Of course, our wonderful community members based in New Zealand are always welcome to share their projects with us anytime. We love your work!

Finally, many thanks to the supporters of the project search this year: British Paints, Dulux, 3M Scotch Blue and Safety Brands. We appreciate your support of the Workshop community and encouraging people to have a go at their own home improvement projects.

We look forward to seeing your projects soon. Don't forget that as per the terms and conditions, entries close at 11:50pm AEST on Sunday, 30 July 2023. Good luck!

Hi @trish22,

Great question! When you post a project, make sure you select the label "D.I.Y. July entry" before hitting Post and you'll be submitted.

Hi @trish22,

We can absolutely add a label for you. Just send either myself or @Akanksha a private message and which project you'd like to edit and we will be more than happy to help.

More than halfway through D.I.Y. July and it's been wonderful to see that we've received so many terrific entries. The judges are sure going to have a tough time this year.

We hope you have been inspired by all these D.I.Y. projects and that they have motivated you to complete and share some of your own work. As always, please don't hesitate to ask our wonderful Workshop community members should you need any help.

We look forward to seeing more amazing projects as the search for Australia's best D.I.Y. projects continues.
