Where can i find this timber?

Hey there, this is my first post here, hope you are well! I’d need to find this type of timber https://www.bunnings.com.au/90-x-45mm-mgp10-untreated-pine-timber-framing-1-5m_p8030076 . I need it to be untreated and straight.
I’ve been to multiple Bunnings stores and nobody seems to have it. It’s either treated or untreated but not straight, all curly and twisted. They’ve told me “we don’t bring it because nobody buys it, they take the dresses timber” , which costs twice or three time the price.
I live in south Sydney and Bunnings kirrawee and Caringbah don’t have it for sure.

Any ideas?
cheers

Re: where can i find this timber?

Welcome to the Workshop community @fedecz. I'd be happy to answer your question.

Timber comes in many different grades depending on its structural integrity, how straight it is and the final finish. The product you have selected is framing grade which means it is fairly straight and has limited knots and distortions. It is used for making frames in housing and is suitable for this purpose.

Can I please ask what you are using the pine for as our helpful community members may have some great suggestions as to how we can minimise the cost of your project.

Re: where can i find this timber?

Hi Mitchell, thanks for your post. I’m planning to build a desk. I’ve chosen the timber in the link for the reasons you list, few knots and really striaight. I also wouldn’t like the timber to be treated. But most of the timber I find in the shops, is.

I asked around in the timber shops about the pine in the link and they never have it. Why would they show it online and not bring it to the stores? They even told me is because they don’t sell. Is this true?
cheers!

Re: where can i find this timber?

Hi @fedecz.

You are correct that most of our pine framing timber is treated. It is predominantly used to build frames in houses and the termite treatment it receives is needed for that purpose. Please allow me until Monday as I will follow this up and let you know the availability of the product in stores.

Re: where can i find this timber?

Hi I have had this issue before, you may be able to fined what you are looking for at either Mitre 10 or Bowens timber I have found they have a larger range of dressed timbers in most cases.

Re: where can i find this timber?

Just making a sink step for someone using framing. It is hard to find at the big green sheds and it tends to have rounded corners which for furniture making can be a problem. I would try a more specialised timber merchant that is geared towards the building trade, you may not get to pick over what pieces you want though.

Re: where can i find this timber?

Hi @fedecz.

I have spoken with Gab one of the Managers at Kirrawee Bunnings and he has confirmed that he will place an order for the timber you require.

Please contact him on (02) 85360600 to organise the order.

If there is anything else you need or if you have further questions, please let me know.

Re: Where can i find this timber?

Hi Fred,

How did you get on? I have also been into Bunnings many times looking for this kind of thing. Yesterday, I found some "pine shorts", they would've worked, but there was only 3 pieces, but their computers showed 47 items.

Thanks,

Grant
