What D.I.Y. skills should everyone know?

I noticed a story published in the Daily Mail earlier in the week in which Bunnings D.I.Y. expert Graham Ireland shared the most important D.I.Y. skills everyone should know by the time they reach 30.

The list was:

  • Hang a picture
  • Pot a plant
  • Clean your grout
  • Set up a smart home
  • Restore a piece of furniture
  • Paint a wall
  • Clean the gutters
  • Remove a carpet stain
  • Compost your kitchen scraps

Do you think Graham missed any crucial D.I.Y. skills that everyone should know? What are the D.I.Y. skills you think you use the most often?

Let us know by replying below.

Re: What D.I.Y. skills should everyone know?

84% of 18-24 year old admit they don't know how to change a light bulb.

Plus they are too scared to construct a flat pack. It's funny but really sad.

Knowledge is the key.
If someone has purchased a house and they plan on renovating some time and they have no experience, then I would suggest a short course in Building and Carpentry. It will give them the needed skills to tackle almost anything they legally can do.

Plus it will save them thousands

Re: What D.I.Y. skills should everyone know?

I agree with knowledge and information, Unfortunately, telling them ( Gen Y) they will never afford a house, to compost your scraps, grow your own food on a balcony would be driving that generation to depression. OT, growing up I was told I could try/do/be anything, at school I was in awe of the Apollo missions.
Where are today's role models the likes of Armstrong,Aldrin & Collins  ?

Agree @Jason - plenty of role models here and I certainly get the feeling people benefit a lot from this community...beyond just DIY tips.

The likes of Armstrong, Aldrin and Colllins have inspired the next generation of role models such as Branson and Musk as well as the youngsters on a mission to change our world like Boyan Slat.
