Welcome to the Workshop community @DBHector. I'd be happy to answer your question.

 

If you are planning on painting with a light shade of colour it would be well advised to go with Zinsser cover stain as it will effectively block any residual stain from showing through. This an oil-based product and will require an oil-based topcoat.

 

If you have stripped the stain completely and it is back to bare timber you can use Dulux Weather Shield directly onto the timber.
