The Workshop community includes many clever and creative members who have shared countless inspirational projects throughout the past year.

 

A huge thank you to all Workshop members who have shared their experiences and the results of their hard work in 2018.

 

Here’s the top 10 most popular Workshop projects of the year by pageviews:

 1. D.I.Y. deck built from scratch by @Tara86

 

Tara shared a photo of this fantastic project as her first post on Workshop, adding that she was “proud of my partner and I” to have completed their first deck from scratch. The community has certainly agreed that the couple did a terrific job with the outdoor entertaining space.

 

2. Handmade barn doors by @peta

 

Sliding barn doors have been one of the hottest trends in home improvement in recent years, helping to partition large spaces while acting as an attractive feature. Peta shared two wonderful examples from her home, saying that she was keen to replace all the doors in the house. 

 

3. Raised garden beds made from fence palings by @Poppop

 

Workshop member Dave made these two planter boxes from treated pine fence palings as a Christmas gift for his sister. He finished them with a coat of linseed oil.

Made from treated pine and lined with weed matting, this bed is used to grow vegies at an easily accessible height.

Rob’s inventive renovation of a classic 70s Millard van was inspired by the iconic Penguin Classic range of books and beat generation tome On the Road by Jack Kerouac. The popular project was Rob’s first solo venture after completing three previous caravans last year with an experienced tradie mate.

 

6. Makeover for the side of the house by @shayden06

 

Narrow areas down the side of a house can be very tricky to deal with, but this combination of decking and garden is a wonderfully practical solution for easy access as well as creating a space for relaxing and enjoying the outdoors.

 

7. New shed storage project by @Tara86

 

An organised, clutter-free workshop is a popular goal, and this is a great example of what can be achieved using customised storage even with relatively limited space. The portable workbench is a particularly smart idea, and the discussion also includes handy storage ideas from other community members.

 

8. New outdoor entertaining area by @danieltheman

 

Workshop member Daniel had “never built anything” in his life. But after a fire damaged an old patio, Daniel constructed this stunning deck that has been hugely admired by the community.

9. 1980s kitchen reno on a budget by @ProjectPete

 

Founding member Pete recently renovated an entire 80s home with a budget of just $10,000. The kitchen update cost under $1000 and included refreshing the cabinetry with laminate paint, new benchtops, and a subway tile splashback.

 

10. Workshop shed build by @Kiwifr33

 

A long-running labour of love, it’s been fantastic to watch the progress of this bespoke backyard workshop and its internal fit-out, including tools, benchtops, tables and storage options.
